Short Story - August 2007
A Dangerous Time
II never loved Jennifer. It was not her fault. When
the nurse placed her in my arms all I felt was the
pull of a sinking heart. My child, my responsibility – the
door to my life closing.
“You’ll grow to love her”, the nurse said reading my expression.
I knew I wouldn’t. She reminded me too much of her father and the struggle
it had taken to inadvertently produce her. I would have chosen to forget my mistake – Jennifer
made forgetfulness impossible.
